Shortcuts & settings

Areca is built to be driven from the keyboard, and it keeps its settings short and honest. Here's the full reference for both.

Keyboard shortcuts

Some keys do different things depending on what's open — the letters inside the filter menu, for example, only act while that menu is up, so they never clash with the shortcuts below. Shortcuts also stand down while you're typing in a text field.

Settings

Settings live on their own page — open it with ,, from the menu beside the logo, or from the collapsed sidebar. Changes save on their own as you make them; a small indicator confirms it.

Setting	What it does
Enable Linear issue editing	Turn off to make Areca read-only — no changes are written back to Linear until you turn it on again. On by default.
Calendar hour height	Sets the calendar's vertical density: Fit (compact), Roomy (the default), or Double (spacious).
Desktop notifications	Lets Areca send system notifications for upcoming blocks. Turning it on asks your browser for permission.
Timezone	Follows your browser by default; set an explicit timezone here if you'd rather pin one.

Reminders & notifications

For any block with a time (all-day blocks are skipped), Areca reminds you as it approaches:

• A heads-up five minutes before it starts
• A nudge when it starts

These show up inside the app automatically. To also get them as desktop notifications when Areca isn't the window you're looking at, three things need to line up:

1. Desktop notifications is on in settings
2. Your browser has granted notification permission
3. Areca is in the background — if you're already looking at it, the in-app reminder is enough

When the setting is on but your browser hasn't granted permission yet, a small prompt appears in the sidebar to help you enable it. Each reminder is only ever delivered once, even across multiple tabs.

Theme

Areca follows your system's light or dark preference out of the box. Press L to cycle through system, light, and dark, or set it from the logo menu or the collapsed rail. Your choice is remembered.
